Middletown Retailer Offers the Most Environmentally Friendly Paint on the National Market

Many claims about “green” products are made, but some don’t always hold true. The Better Business Bureau recently admonished a nationally known paint manufacturer for making false claims about a product they claimed was low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) when it actually was not once a tint was added to the base.

PaintNatura© premium interior waterborne paint from Benjamin Moore, available now from Parvo’s Paint in Middletown, Rhode Island, tests as zero VOC before and after tinting, in all 3000+ colors. Third-part laboratory testing reveals that Natura© releases fewer total volatile compounds than other national zero-VOC paints, according to the toughest paint-emissions standards under California’s Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHIPS).

Benjamin Moore utilizes greener raw materials combined with a special refining process to produce a product that is virtually odorless. Together with their patented Gennex© waterborne colorant technology, Natura© paint surpasses the performance levels of other green products on the market. Additionally, Benjamin Moore has gone beyond just looking at VOCs, and has evaluated the total volatile compounds that may impact indoor air quality. Even the packaging and marketing materials for Natural use an environmentally friendly combination of recycled and post-consumer content.

Benjamin Moore CEO Denis Abrams said, “Benjamin Moore is very proud of its Gennex platform. We truly believe that the customer is best served by open disclosure about zero VOC and low VOC paint.”

There have been no safeguards of any type to alert consumers to the fact that traditional colorants used in paints, when added at retail to tint the formulation, can add VOCs into paints that starts out as low or zero VOC. Benjamin Moore advocates that every can of paint claiming to be zero or low VOC should fully inform the buyer about the addition of the colorant and what that might yield. Additionally, Benjamin Moore also advocates that those responsible for certifying the "greenness of a product" update their testing method to include paint colorants.

Bill Parvo, who established Parvo’s Paint in 1974, commented, “We are proud to represent the Benjamin Moore brand and have done so since we opened over 35 years ago. They have always produced the finest paint products available. Natura offers a virtually odorless finish in an unlimited color palette for every interior surface.”
